I know that you all have the car you own.
Either because it's the exact year/combo you want, or could afford.
And some of you, like me, have more than one generation Trans Am (I only have 2 generations).
But, what I what to know is, what is your all time favorite generation Trans Am?
Mine is the second gen cars.
I have always loved the long hood/short rear deck.
Maybe because of the age that I grew up in, but hood scoops, fender flairs, and hood birds make me love them too!
As for power, nothing beats the Ram Air/455 cars either. For me.
Granted, I also own the 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am, but I really would rather drive my 1970 Trans Am with the Ram Air engine (soon to be converted to a coded matching Ram Air IV engine) and the 4 speed tranny.
Now, I do love the quickness and speed of the 20th TTA, but I do love rowing though the gears of a 4 speed, and high horsepower engine with lots of torque.
Back then, it took quite a few years, before I started liking the thirdgens.
The 15th Anniversary Trans Am, and the 1983 Daytona Trans Am kinda stood out for me, but when the GTAs came out with the bigger 350 engine, then I was hooked on them.
I knew that in a few years (1989), there would be a 20th Anniversary Edition made.
So, I waited.
I am glad I did, as it's the only Anniversary Trans Am with a special powerplant.
All the other Anniversarys shared the engine of all the other Trans Ams.
Not the 20th Turbo Trans Am.
So, I bought mine new.
And, I am glad and lucky enough to have done that.
I kinda liked the '77-'78s, but the taillights were old and dated to me.
After all, they shared the same taillights as the '74s and up.
I knew that the 1979 would be different, and when it came out, I wasn't sure.
Those front lights took awhile to get use to.
By 1981, I was hooked, and bought my 1981 Turbo Trans Am, Special Edition new.
Again, I was lucky to have done that.
I did try to buy a 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am, but every dealership want at least 10 grand over window sticker.
I would have bought it for a few reasons, it was an Anniversary model, with a special paint job, and the biggest Bird ever put on a Trans Am.
To this day, I want one.
Now, as for interior, again, the second gen hands down.
But really only just one year, and one car.
The 1981 NASCAR Turbo Trans Am.
The ultimate interior.
Fully reclining Recaro seats, with red/black interior.
Nothing ever beat that interior combo.
Makes me wish that Pontiac didn't drop the Recaro seat option before 1989.
I would have paid more, to have Recaros in my 20th Turbo Trans Am.
As for the ultimate year.
1970 Trans Am, hands down, Lucerne Blue, 4 gear, either the Ram Air III or the Ram Air IV engine.
So, what's your choice?
And, why?
