I saw Johnny Rutherford again this year, and got my other 1980 TTA jacket signed (yes, I now have two jackets signed by him).
I even got him to sign my Indy Pace Car Book in two other places, as he also won the 1974 and 1976 Indy 500 races.
Last time, I only got him to sign under the 1980 section.
However, I blew it big time, as after I got it autographed, I went back to the car to unload everything.
The book was on top of my carrycase, so I pulled it out, set it on top of the car, and unloaded the bag into the trunk of the car, and inside the car.
Then, I shut everything up, and went back into the show for 4 hours.
I came out after the show, and again unloaded everything into the trunk, and inside the car.
I got in the car, started it, and backed out of my space, and pulled out, driving by alot of people, and then driving out into the street, right by the gate guard.
As I went down the street, I heard something rolling down the car, and I ran under it.
Looking back, I saw something in the street, like paper flying around.
I couldn't stop, as there was now traffic on my butt, and no where to stop.
It wasn't until I got home, that I figured out it was my book!
I was lucky, as I have some spare books, so the next day, I was back with the book, and got all three sections signed by him.
He is a super guy, as I told him the whole story, and we then chatted for about 30 minutes, with him telling me about Indy, his cars, and how he still works for them, and giving me some inside info on stuff.
Anyway, here's what he signed for me:
There were 2 other Indy winners supposted to be at SEMA this year, but I missed seeing Danny Sullivan, and Bobby Rahal didn't make it.
Sure would be neat to get every year signed as much as I can.
