This is the lamest law yet: Wednesday, December 24, 2008
KINGMAN - Motorists across Arizona may want to ask for new license plate frame for Christmas.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Department of Transportation, effective Jan.1, all Arizona license plates must be clearly legible, and the state name at the top of the plate cannot be covered.
The new law only applies to Arizona license plates. The entire state name must be visible.
The idea is to make it easier for accident witnesses and law enforcement officers to identify state plates. The law is a primary enforcement law, which means an officer can pull your vehicle over if the plate is obscured.
The law applies to all Arizona license plates, no matter when the plate was purchased.
The change in the law was passed in 2006 but doesn't go into effect until January.
The idea was to give car dealerships and others time to change the design of their license plate frames so the frame would not cover up the state name.
The fine: $135.00!! What a way to start the new year.
