George, I was wondering if you could shed some light on this for me... Perhaps you have a dealer album you could check.
As we all know, the WS6 package was reintroduced in 1996. As far as I am aware the WS6 convertible shared the same suspension as the WS6 coupes, except for the 16" rims. Is that correct?
1996 and 1997 WS6 Convertibles came with 16" wheels. I have seen people on LS1 tech refer to their WS6 vert's as "RamAir" TransAm's/Firebirds... they claim that the ram air hood equipped 96/97 Verts (WS6's) did not have the WS6 suspension mods.
Even if the suspensions differed wouldnt a WS6 ("RamAir")equipped Convertible still be a WS6?
Any ideas? I've always presumed that these people were getting their names/designations confused.

Hi Dan! According to the 1997 Pontiac Product Book (and many other books), the Convertible Ram Air cars got the same engine, dual exhaust, but just the 16 inch wheels, with performance tires to match the wheels. Pontiac called it the Ram Air Performance Package. The regular coupes got the Ram Air Performance and Handling Package. This added a specifically turned suspension with 17 inch wheels and performance tires, P275/40ZR17 speed rated tires. You could get Ram Air on both the coupe and convertible, but they are different. Hope this helps, George

Thanks George, that is just the type of info I was looking for.
Did they share the same RPO? (WS6?)

In the Product Book they have the same RPO code. You are more than welcome. George

I have always thought that Pontiac had some good Firebird/Trans Am commericals. ;D George
