Nice video! I almost bought one, the same colors, but it was beat to sh*t. I didn't know anyone doing the repro decals at the time, so I dropped out of the race to own it. Now, I wish I did buy it. It was a fun car, and a 4 gear to boot! This one sounds like an auto, then halfway thru the video, I saw that it was. ;D No biggie, I'd take that as well. George

I was about to buy one also, till I realized it was in georgia. Pretty far travel from new jersey to georgia, especially towing a car
Phoenix Graphix reproduces them. I don't know when they got the macho stripes in, but they have the standard macho and turbo macho decals.

On the cars, those wide stripes are/were painted on by Mecham Pontiac. I think Dennis may have some parts and decals still, hopefully not from Phoenix Graphix. I'm not too happy with them. Not all their stuff is correct. George

I bought a set for my blue ragtop Trans Am. A complete set. They only sell the set with T/A 6.6 hood scoop decals. My car is a Olds 403, so I needed 6.6 Liter hood scoop decals. I ordered the NOS hood scoop decals on ebay (they were original Pontiac decals-correct), and the whole kit from Phoenix. I got the hood scoop decals first, and installed them onto my hood scoop. The next day, I got the kit. I spent the next day, installing the whole kit, minus the hood scoop decals. After getting the whole thing done, it was about a month later, when someone at a car show pointed it out to me. The original Pontiac decals used gold in the center of the decals. Phoenix uses silver. Nowhere at all correct! Also, years later, when you can't get 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am decasl from Pontiac, Phoenix came on the scene again, with their decals. Guess what? The windshield decals are not right. The Indy part on each side are not suppost to be solid, but see thru. Not correct at all. Also, on 301garage or TAC, I forget, someone bought decals for their 1981 NASCAR Turbo Trans Am, and the rear decal is all one piece, not separate letters, like original. I guess Phoenix said they would correct it for them, we'll see..... I would ask people if they bought the exact set you are planning to get. I now only use NOS decals, and I don't believe when someone says the old original ones are no longer good. Phoenix started around 1987, and I doubt they make their decasl new everyday. The big problem with NOS, is they are very $$$, compared to aftermarket. If colors and one piece decals are no big deal to you, then get them. I like original and original look. If you have a rare collectable car, go original parts. My take, George

Maybe I will get my decals from NPD or another resto parts supplier. Color and being one peice aren't a big deal. I'm not building a show car. I'm building it alittle custom Like the dual gate shifter, I'm doing a dash grab bar delete, rear spoiler ends from a 70-78 T/A, 70-76 shaker scoop (recently decided), I'm also going to try and fabricate honey comb mesh grilles. As for shaker decals, I'm going a different direction.I have 2, 350 emblems that are going on the shaker instead of decals. I'd also like to put a set of crager ss rims instead of the turbo or snowflake rims. Thats pretty much the way I'm going to build this car. There's some other things I'm doing also. I want to swap the cam for an RA III, maybe remove the sway bar and add a set of competition engineering traction bars and sub frame connectors. Sometime in the future hotchkis leaf springs and coil springs. Sorry for the huge response, but you did kinda ask, LOL

I bet after you are finished you going to have one sweet ride on your hands. As for repo decals. Sometimes it might be a license issue for having the exact duplicates of the originals. Sometimes they make it a little different than the original to bypass all the legal stuff. I know that holds true on some of the reprodution decals on the newer cars.

You know Steve, Instead of using 350 emblems, why not go with thirdgen 5.7 Liter decals? It may look cleaner. Once you remove the front sway bar, don't expect to take any turns like you use to with it on. That front end won't want to turn very well. I like my cars set up for the road at speed. If you want fast, just build a quicker engine. ;D George

Traction bars are for the rear. They bolt to the leaf spring anchor, and add traction by putting more pressure on the rear wheels an basically push them into the ground. They give a nice straight forward launch. They are mainly for the strip, the complete oppostie of what you want for something like autocross.
Using decals may look cleaner, but I want something that will stand out and be noticed by people looking.

My point is that if you drive the car on the street most of the time, you will need the front sway bar. If you are just building a drag car, it won't be a problem. By autocrossing, I also mean driving near the tolerances set up by the factory, on the regular roads and freeways. Don't you like taking turns at speed? ;D I know all about trackion bars, I had a set by lakewood for my one car, and ended up taking them off. I very rarely do any drag racing. Now, street racing is another matter. ;D George

Oh okay. I'm still trying to decide wheather to add trac bars or upgrade the sway bar/bars. One thing pushing me from t-bars is they would make the car take the bumps harder. Did that happen to you?

Yep! And they stuck down lower than anything else on the bottom of the car. I ended up hitting a dead dog on the freeway one night, and didn't think anything about it for about a week. Then, when I went out to my car that day, it stunk real bad! I found that the traction bar on one side, had gouged the dog, and it wasn't pretty. I had to go to a do-it-yourself car wash, to use the power sprayer to remove dog parts. I took them off after that. It will sometimes catch speed bumps, depending on how low you get them to sit, if you use low profile tires. I myself, like bigger sway bars, and taking turns at speed, like freeway on-ramps, over-passes, and street corners. Maybe someone local to you has traction bars on their car-you can maybe go for a ride in their car to see for yourself. Hope this helps somewhat, George

Aw man, that is nasty. No lo-pro tires. I like big thick tires, more rubber for burnouts, LOL I'd really like to get a set of Goodyear nascar tires. Wish they were still available with the yellow lettering.
