Hi, My name is John and I'm a car guy. Started at a very young age and been addicted since. Landed here through TAC and figured I'd become a member. I have had a few Firebirds and Trans Ams over the years. My current bird is a 70 Esprit turned TA clone of sorts. I've had it since the early 90's when I bought it from an older lady for $190.00. Her husband had driven the car and passed away long before I arrived on the scene. In pictures, it looks like some megabuck frame off restoration kind of car but quite the opposit is true. After purchasing it I decided to fix it up, paint it, and drive it. Well I've been "fixing it up" for about 18-19 years now. LOL I've done almost all the work myself other than welding the rollcage in, bending exhaust, and some sewing work I had done to modify the rear seat cover. The paint's not even close to show quality, it's nowhere near as fast as it looks, and there's really nothing exotic as far as suspension etc goes. But I like it and it's been popular wherever I take it. I drive it on the street, road courses, Land Speed Races, dragstrips and I'm going to start using it at open road races. Everyone likes pics so here's a couple.

Hey are those the real header pipes on your car, tell me more about your pipes, I have the org. hooker header sidepipes on mine but they are rusted out, But I still have them so I can use them as a mock up to build new ones if need be.

Welcome John! Beautiful car you have there, even if it's still not up to your standards in paint. I love the early Firebirds, and I have a 1970 Lucerne Blue Trans Am in need of some repair myself. I haven't gotten to a road course yet, but I have had lots of fun autocrossing in a few cars of mine, all Trans Ams. Heck, I even made it on Eyewitness News, up in Reno, Nevada, with the camera guy in the passenger seat. I have a video of it, sent to me by the News Company, but I have to figure out how to get it onto the computer, and then youtube. In that first picture, it looks like your hood scoop doesn't like a quarter photo, but a straight on head shot to the camera. Feel free to post up more photos, as we all love looking at pictures. ;D George

Welcome John! You have great looking Bird. That is the same direction I want to do with my 71 Firebird. I'm glad you became a member and posted pics of your car. You made my day to see somebody's base Firebird and made it into Trans Am clone. You have any tips you can give me as for parts. Please let me know.

The pipes on my car have the fake header pipes. Only one of the tubes actually flows exhaust. I put them on back when I had the original 350 2V and they were fine for it, but they're choking the 400 I'm running now. I have to figure something out.

Feel free to post up more photos, as we all love looking at pictures. ;D George I'm running a Performer intake with carb spacers and a Speed Demon carb. The rubber scoop gasket will not fit and the whole air cleaner assembly rotates a bit from the vibration on road courses about 1/2 way through a track session because of the uneven pressure the hood puts on the scoop assembly. Doesn't happen on the street and I'll be changing things soon.

Thanks for he compliments everyone! 2nd gens have been getting a lot more love lately. The new carbon fiber body parts that have come out recently are going to free up a bunch of original body parts for the early 2nd gens. Keep your eye out on Ebay and the forums over the next year.
