Here's a must have tool/appliance for even any half-way
serious classic car enthusiast.
It's a fluid extractor and dispenser. And it's built
to handle motor oil, transmission oil, power steering
fluid, brake fluid and coolant.
Why do you want this... because many of those somewhat
messy jobs can now much cleaner and simpler.
In some cases you may still need to go underneath to
change filters - but even then the overall mess is much
more manageable.
In the case of transmission oil, you can suck it dry
prior to removing the pan - making this job much nicer.
And not only does getting it out become easier, but
dispensing it back into a recycling container a snap,
just reverse the flow.
I use it for motor oil changes, transmission fluid
changes, power steering fluid (partial) changes and
brake fluid (partial) changes.
I also use it for the occasional overfills, allowing
me to get exactly the right level every time.
Actually power steering fluid does eventually break
down and or may absorb water and component/system
corrosion can occur.
Brake fluid is very hygroscopic, so just draining down
the reservoir (don't uncover the ports though) and adding
fresh annually would help this all important system be less
water contaminated.
The unit is made by MityVac, the same folks that make the
little hand bleeder/ vacuum and pressure tool.
I've used mine for 3 months now and can say I truly love it.
This unit is sold by many outlets, the price seems to
vary from about $70 to $120 and in some cases is re-branded
(I believe).
