For the most part I don't subscribe to
miracle additives, particularly the stop leak
products.
But every now and then I try stuff that seems
to have solid reviews and an established history.
As winter came to a close in Texas I decided to
try a product that I had seen work before but
hadn't actually given it a personal evaluation.
Since I have 12 cars in my fleet, some just don't
get as much driving as they should to stay tip top.
Since a number of them have to pass a tail pipe
EPA test yearly they get driven a bunch more a month
before the test.
Modern day gasoline isn't much like fine spirits as
it just doesn't age all that well... left alone for
an extended period it will become garbage.
So both carburators and fuel injectors may eventually
get a taste of older gasolines and depending on age react
adversely.
Even though I religioulsly use Sta-Bil, that protection
is "rated" at about a year...
I have now evaluated SeaFoam, and have decided I like
it and that it pretty much does as it says.
To date, I have used without issue, SeaFoam as both a
fuel system cleaner and combustion chamber carbon cleaner.
Here's the vehicles that I used it in:
1981 Turbo Trans Am
1985 Chevrolet El Camino
1990 Firebird
1996 Grand Am
In all cases I noticed an improvement in engine acceleration
and idle smoothness.
Of the bunch my '96 Grand Am is very daily driven and has an
injector or two that are at times a little slow to cooperate,
I was about to resign myself to either a cleaning service or
injector swapout... Now, neither are needed.
I believe this stuff is fairly strong, and I used the recommended
amount or less and got nice results.
So... thumbs up for Seafoam!
